BNP Organizing Secretary Mahbuber Rahman Samim, while addressing a gathering at Bandartila Bazaar in Nijhum Dwip Union on Wednesday afternoon (June 11), said that despite the fallen autocratic regime’s long stay in power, Nijhum Dwip saw no development. “What they left behind was land grabbing, looting, extortion, and terror,” he said.

Expressing his admiration for the island, Samim added, “I’m truly amazed by the beauty of Nijhum Dwip. If BNP comes to power, we will transform this island into a major tourist destination. Not only locals, but tourists from across the world will come here. We've traveled to many countries, yet have not seen a place like Nijhum Dwip. It will become the ‘Maldives’ of Bangladesh.”

He also urged the interim government to immediately take steps to build an embankment, emphasizing that BNP would construct a full embankment if elected. “It’s unacceptable that the people of such a beautiful place are living in such hardship,” he added. He promised improved transportation and initiatives to help locals become self-reliant if BNP returns to power.
