Speaking at the launch of the Legal Aid (Amendment) Ordinance 2025, he underscored the importance of the newly introduced mandatory pre-litigation mediation process. In his speech, he remarked, “We often hear, what have you done? Are you sitting here on the blood of martyrs? I am not a football player or a stage actor that you can watch what I am doing. I have done many things that have never been done in the history of Bangladesh.” Nazrul explained that the reforms are designed to expand citizens’ access to justice and will be even more impactful if sustained by future governments. The mediation process, he noted, will allow disputes to be resolved faster and more affordably, reducing reliance on lengthy court proceedings. Under the ordinance, issues such as family conflicts, parental maintenance, house rent, dowry, and property distribution will now be handled through mandatory mediation before litigation. The initiative will first be implemented across 12 districts starting September 18.
