A houseboat carrying tourists caught fire on Friday night in Tanguar Haor, prompting a swift rescue that ensured all 12 tourists on board escaped unharmed, officials confirmed.

The fire started around 8:15 PM near Niladri Lakepar in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj district, according to local authorities.

"After the fire broke out, the tourists were quickly moved to a nearby boat and evacuated safely," said Tahirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Abul Hashem. "Although the houseboat was completely destroyed, no one was injured."

Tahirpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Delwar Hossain stated that the houseboat had a generator used for charging mobile phones. Initial findings indicate the fire may have been triggered by a mobile phone explosion during charging.

Police visited the scene shortly after the incident. No casualties were reported, and the tourists are expected to depart the area on Saturday morning. The estimated damage from the fire is approximately Tk 22 lakh.
