After it was first detected in China, the virus spread to Japan, Malaysia, and even India. Now, for the first time, HMPV-infected patients have been identified in the country, as confirmed by the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control, and Research (IEDCR) on Sunday, January 12. The patient is a woman from the Bhairab area of Kishoreganj. HMPV is an infectious disease that spreads in a similar way to the coronavirus. Scientists note that, like COVID-19, it is transmitted through sneezing, coughing, close contact with an infected person, handshakes, and physical touch. Although the virus was first identified in China in 2001, no effective vaccine has been developed so far. Early in January this year, new cases were reported in China, and the virus was also detected in Japan. The outbreak has now spread to Malaysia and India. Despite the spread of the virus, health professionals and epidemiologists assure that there is no need for panic. They emphasize that the disease can be prevented, with measures similar to those used for COVID-19. In hospitals in China, where HMPV patients have been treated, conventional medications have been used rather than any specific antiviral drugs. To prevent infection, doctors recommend regularly washing hands with soap, maintaining a safe distance from infected individuals, thoroughly cleaning hands after touching objects, and staying home if feeling unwell.
