The High Court has denied permission to set up a cattle market in Meradia, Banasree of Dhaka ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha. The order was issued on Tuesday (April 29) by a High Court bench comprising Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque and Justice Aynun Nahar Siddiqua.

Additionally, the court issued a rule asking why a cattle market was being permitted next to Meradia Bazaar—one of the 11 designated sites under the jurisdiction of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). The court instructed the city corporation not to allow any cattle market in the area until the rule is resolved.

The bench also raised questions about the process of leasing out cattle market sites, particularly given that a permanent cattle market is located just 8.4 kilometers from the proposed site.
