The whole house was beautifully decorated for the wedding. At the bride’s home, food was being prepared, and guests were being entertained. The groom’s party had arrived in a motorcade, and everyone was waiting for the ceremony to begin. But even after two hours, the wedding didn’t start. The Kazi was ready, and people began to wonder what was going on. Finally, it was revealed that the groom refused to say “Kobul” until his best friend arrived.

The unusual incident took place on Tuesday (October 14) afternoon at Khirodia village in Tamraddi union of Hatia upazila, Noakhali. A video of the event later went viral on social media.

According to locals, the marriage of Arman, son of Karim Bepari from Maijchara village of Sonadia union, was arranged with a girl from Khirodia village. Before the wedding party left, Arman had a disagreement with his close friend Riaz over who would sit in the car. Upset, Riaz decided not to attend the wedding.

When the wedding party reached the bride’s home, Arman refused to get out of the car until his friend came. Despite repeated requests from family members, relatives, and villagers, he stood firm—he would not proceed without Riaz.

After about two hours, the groom’s family finally brought Riaz to the venue. Only then did Arman smile, say “Kobul,” and complete the marriage ceremony.

Groom Arman Hossain later said, “Riaz is my childhood friend. He got upset over a small issue and didn’t come. I couldn’t imagine such an important day without him, so I waited until he arrived.”

Altaf Hossain, a relative of the bride, said, “We started serving food to the guests from 12 noon. The groom’s party arrived around 1:30 PM, but we had to wait nearly two hours for his friend. Many villagers left in frustration. The wedding was finally completed after the friend arrived.”
