The government has given its approval in principle to a proposal for constructing a cable car route from Himchori to Reju Khal along the Marine Drive Road in Cox's Bazar district. This project will be implemented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework.

The decision was made during the 16th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Economic Affairs, held today (27 May) at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed. The proposal was presented by the Cox's Bazar Development Authority (CoxDA), which operates under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.

During the same meeting, the committee also approved, in principle, a proposal from the Ministry of Commerce to extend the timeframe for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) to import or locally procure essential commodities. The extension allows TCB to continue using the direct procurement method (DPM) or any other applicable methods under Section 68 (1) and Section 32 of the Public Procurement Act, 2006, until 30 June 2027, for urgent state purposes.

Additionally, the Economic Affairs Committee approved another proposal from the Ministry of Commerce regarding an extension of the timeframe mentioned in the relevant section for the tendering process under the internal Open Tendering Method (OTM). This includes the period from the date of newspaper advertisement to the formulation and submission of bids. The approval was given in accordance with Section 83 (1) (Ka) and Section 61 (5) of the Public Procurement Rules, 2008, within the jurisdiction of TCB.
