The Government of Bangladesh has reaffirmed its commitment to women’s empowerment and equal access to education, especially in rural areas. During a parliamentary session on Wednesday, Prime Minister Tarek Rahman said the government is considering nationalizing one women’s college in each upazila to expand opportunities for female students in higher education. He noted that priority will be given to larger and more important upazilas to further strengthen women’s academic participation and social empowerment.

Responding to lawmakers in the National Parliament, the prime minister also outlined broader education reforms. These include plans to raise the education sector budget to five percent of GDP, provide free school uniforms to millions of primary students, and introduce digital classrooms along with free Wi-Fi in many institutions. The government is also working on long-term initiatives such as school feeding programs and digital education IDs for students and teachers, aiming to build a more inclusive and competitive education system nationwide.
