The Bangla Academy has announced that the free distribution of sanitary napkins will continue at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair. This information was shared in a notice issued by the Academy on Sunday night (February 16), along with an expression of regret over the recent situation.

According to the notice, sanitary napkins will be available for women and children near the restrooms at the fair. The event management company, Dreamer Donkey, which handles various activities of the fair with the support of sponsors, failed to follow the prescribed guidelines. The company was found selling various products without permission, leading to action being taken against the responsible stall.

The Academy emphasized, “There is no hesitation on our part regarding the promotion and use of sanitary napkins. The controversy surrounding the commercialization of the book fair was presented in a different light. Similar actions were taken against several other products as well. We have instructed the event management company to distribute sanitary napkins as a courtesy whenever needed.”

Advisor Mustafa Sarwar Farooki also addressed the issue, stating, “Sanitary napkins are a very normal thing. The Bangla Academy has confirmed through a statement that starting tomorrow (Monday), sanitary napkins will be provided free of charge next to the women’s restrooms at the fairground.”
