In Rajshahi, a former Chhatra Dal leader was burned while attempting to set fire to tires during a protest demanding the cancellation of a nomination. The incident occurred on Monday (November 10) afternoon in the Chauddapai area of Rajshahi during the demonstration.

The injured leader, Shahidul Islam, is the former organizational secretary of the district Chhatra Dal. He is known as a supporter of Nasir Hossain Asthir, son of former BNP State Minister for Land Advocate Kabir Hossain.

At the time of the incident, Shahidul and other supporters of Asthir were protesting the nomination for the Rajshahi-3 (Paba–Mohonpur) constituency. While setting tires on fire, flames suddenly spread to Shahidul’s body. His fellow activists quickly removed his burning clothes and managed to extinguish the fire.

Shahidul was later taken to the Rajshahi University Medical Center, where he received primary treatment.

In this constituency, the BNP nomination went to the party’s Assistant Secretary for Relief and Rehabilitation Affairs, Shafiqul Haque Milon.

Expressing frustration over not receiving the nomination, Nasir Hossain Asthir said, “I have been working for a long time to get the nomination for Rajshahi-3. My supporters staged a protest after the party did not nominate me. During that time, Shahidul accidentally caught fire while trying to ignite a tire. He has since received medical treatment.”
