Major General (Retd.) Ziaul Ahsan has been formally charged in a case concerning crimes against humanity for the abduction and killing of over a hundred individuals during the Awami League government.

The date for presenting the opening statement in the case has been set for February 8.

The order was issued on Wednesday by the three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1, headed by Judge Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder. The other members of the tribunal are Judge Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

Ziaul, the sole accused in the case, was present in court today. Judge Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury read out the formal charges, citing three specific allegations related to the abduction and killing of over a hundred people.

The judge then asked the accused whether he pleaded guilty. Standing in court, Ziaul said he was not guilty.

The tribunal subsequently scheduled February 8 for the presentation of the opening statement in the case.
