A schoolboy was rescued within about one hour and fifteen minutes of his abduction following the intervention of Prime Minister Tareq Rahman. The police recovered him on Tuesday afternoon from an under-construction building in Khilgaon, Dhaka.

The boy’s father, Khandakar Shamim, an employee of the Ministry of Information, was at the Secretariat when he learned about the kidnapping. In distress, he rushed into the Prime Minister’s Office while the Prime Minister was leaving and informed him about the incident.

Upon hearing the matter, Prime Minister Tareq Rahman immediately called Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Masud Alam and instructed him to take swift action.

DC Masud Alam told Prothom Alo that the rescue operation began around 3:45 pm after receiving the Prime Minister’s directive. The ninth-grade student of National Laboratory Ideal School in Khilgaon had been abducted around 2:30 pm after leaving school. Four to five individuals took him to a seven-story under-construction building in the Jorpukur area of Khilgaon, where he was physically assaulted.

The kidnappers collected his father’s phone number and demanded Tk 50,000 as ransom, threatening to kill the boy if the money was not paid. Police initially assured them that the money would be sent and asked for the number to transfer the payment. As negotiations continued, law enforcers traced their location.

Sensing police presence, the kidnappers fled the scene, leaving the boy behind. Around 5:00 pm, police conducted a raid at the building and rescued the student safely.
