A father from Feni has applied for a shotgun license to ensure the safety of his seven-year-old daughter, citing growing concerns over child safety and rising crime in the country.

Tanjirul Islam Samrat, a resident of Char Darbesh Union in Sonagazi Upazila, submitted the application to the Ministry of Home Affairs on May 31. He confirmed the matter on June 2.

In his application, Samrat said recent incidents of violence and abuse against children have left him deeply worried about his daughter's security. He stated that, as a responsible father, he believes a legally licensed firearm would help him protect his family and defend himself if necessary.

He also assured authorities that he would follow all laws and regulations regarding firearm ownership and take every precaution to prevent misuse.

His application comes amid growing public concern over crimes against children. The issue has gained renewed attention following the rape and murder of a child named Ramisa in Pallabi, Dhaka, on May 19, which sparked protests and demonstrations across the country demanding justice.

According to a report by Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK), at least 118 children were raped between January and May 20, 2026. The report also recorded 17 child deaths linked to attempted rape or torture. Samrat said these incidents and the overall sense of insecurity motivated him to take the unusual step of applying for a shotgun license.
