Many farmers are unable to recover their production costs, forcing some to feed unsold cauliflowers to cattle. Bashir Ahmed, a farmer from Saturia upazila in Manikganj, shared, "Cauliflower prices have plummeted. We are selling high-quality cauliflowers for only Tk5 each. I sold the produce from one bigha of land for Tk20,000, but my total expenses, including land preparation, fertilizer, seeds, and labor, amounted to Tk50,000." Farmers in Bogura and Sirajganj are facing similar challenges, with production costs reaching Tk15 per kg. Abdullah All Mamun, the Saturia Upazila Agriculture Officer, explained, "The abundance of winter vegetables in the market has driven prices down. However, farmers cultivating these vegetables now are likely to secure better prices in the coming months. By February, prices could rise to Tk60-70 per kg." The agriculture department is supporting farmers by helping them identify optimal market opportunities and offering training to lower production costs.
