Dhaka, January 19, 2026 — In a landmark judgment, a Dhaka court has sentenced Mohammad Rasel, Managing Director of Evaly, and the company’s Chairwoman, Shamima Nasrin, to 15 months in prison over a fraud case. The verdict was delivered in their absence by Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam on Monday.

In addition to the prison term, each defendant was fined BDT 500, with a further three-month sentence in case of non-payment. Since both were absent during the hearing, the court issued arrest warrants against them.

The case arose from allegations that Evaly lured customers with flashy advertisements. On June 4, 2021, complainant Md. Bazlur Rahman paid BDT 61,142 via Standard Chartered Bank for a Honda Livo 110cc motorcycle promoted on Evaly’s Facebook page, but the company failed to deliver the product within the promised time.
