Abrar Faiyaz, a student at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), said, “In this country, it’s much easier for engineers to go to America than to find a job here.” He shared this in a social media post on Tuesday night (August 26). Earlier that day, BUET students blocked Shahbagh intersection with three demands. After a five-hour protest, they ended the blockade, announcing a program called the “Long March to Dhaka.” Faiyaz’s post supported this initiative.

Calling for participation from all sectors of society, he wrote, “The syndicate system in the engineering sector has created a harmful imbalance in the job market. Students who work tirelessly to get admitted to engineering universities often don’t even know that for 75 out of 100 posts, they won’t get the chance to sit for the recruitment exam.”

He added, “Many engineering students are turning to the BCS exam. Unfortunately, in this country, it’s much easier for engineers to go to America than to get a job here. This situation cannot continue.”
