Adani Power has issued an ultimatum to Bangladesh to settle outstanding payments by November 7. According to The Times of India, the company has warned that failure to pay the $850 million owed by this deadline will result in a complete cut-off of electricity supply. Sources reveal that after the October 31 deadline lapsed, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) tried to open a $170 million letter of credit through the Agricultural Bank, but was unable to fulfill the conditions specified in the power purchase agreement.

As a result of the payment delays, Adani Power Jharkhand has already reduced electricity supply to Bangladesh since October 31. Recent data from the Power Grid Bangladesh (PGB) website indicates that the Godda plant in Jharkhand is currently supplying 724 MW of power from its 1,496 MW installed capacity. Adani Power Jharkhand is the largest electricity supplier to Bangladesh, followed by Payra (1,244 MW), Rampal (1,234 MW), and SS Power I (1,224 MW). The Times of India also reported that Bangladesh is facing challenges in making timely payments due to a shortage of dollars.
