The book fair has finally been postponed and is now scheduled to start on February 25.

The decision was made today (Wednesday) during a meeting between the Minister of Cultural Affairs, Nitai Roy Chowdhury, and publishers.

Mazharul Islam of OnnoProkash told The Daily Star that following publishers’ demands, the Bangla Academy authorities have taken some decisions. According to the new schedule, the book fair will run from February 25 to March 15. There will be no pavilions, and publishers will not have to pay stall rent this year.

The fair usually begins on February 1, but the schedule was changed due to the 13th national parliamentary election and the holy month of Ramadan. Bangla Academy had initially announced that the fair could not start in early February because of the election, and it was set to begin on February 20. To account for potentially lower attendance during Ramadan, the duration was limited to 25 days.

Later, the publishers’ platform ‘Prokashok Oikko,’ representing over 300 publishers, requested that the fair be organized after Eid.
