The White Paper Committee's draft report reveals Bangladesh loses $14 billion annually to capital laundering under the Awami League's 15-year rule. Despite using scientific methods and global data, the exact amount remains unclear due to time constraints. Formed on August 28, the 12-member committee aimed to address economic mismanagement and data gaps. Transparency International Bangladesh earlier estimated annual laundering at $12-15 billion. The 250-page report, covering 22 chapters on key economic issues, highlights mega projects like Padma Bridge, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, and Karnaphuli Tunnel, along with foreign debt concerns. Recommendations include managing subsidies, reducing bad debt, and curbing inflation. The report will be submitted to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus on Sunday and released publicly the following day. Members include economists, energy, and labor experts, chaired by CPD Fellow Debapriya Bhattacharya.
