Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, pledged to reduce working hours for women if his party comes to power, stating that the standard 8-hour workday is unfair to mothers who juggle professional responsibilities and childcare. Speaking at a civic reception in New York hosted by the Coalition of Bangladeshi Americans, he dismissed claims that his party would restrict women to their homes, jokingly questioning the expense of buying so many locks. Emphasizing women’s dual role as caregivers and professionals, he reaffirmed the party’s commitment to making their workload more manageable.
