Former President Donald Trump faced intense backlash on social media after referring to Japan’s Prime Minister as “Mr. Japan” during a Fox News interview on Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo on June 29. While discussing global issues like the Israel-Iran conflict and international trade tariffs, Trump suggested sending letters to countries instead of negotiating. He said, “Dear Mr. Japan, here’s the story. You’re going to pay a 25% tariff on your cars.” The comment quickly went viral, with users mocking Trump for not knowing the name of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Many noted that if President Biden had made a similar error, Republicans would have called for cognitive tests and invoked the 25th Amendment. One X user wrote, “His brain is peanut butter,” while another said, “It’s not politics — it’s a cult.” Critics questioned Trump’s ability to handle diplomacy if he can’t even name world leaders.
