Three diplomats told Reuters that some personnel have been advised to leave the U.S. military’s Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar by Wednesday evening, following warnings from Washington that it might intervene to protect protesters in Iran. The U.S. embassy in Doha had no immediate comment, and Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not respond to Reuters’ requests for confirmation.

Al Udeid, the largest U.S. base in the Middle East, hosts around 10,000 troops. “It’s a posture change, not an ordered evacuation,” one diplomat said, adding that no specific reason had been given for the adjustment.

Earlier, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran had warned regional countries it would strike U.S. military bases if Washington launched an attack, after President Donald Trump threatened intervention in Iran. Last year, in the days leading up to U.S. airstrikes on Iran, some personnel and their families were relocated from bases in the Middle East. Following the U.S. attacks in June, Iran launched a missile strike on the Qatar base.
