Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the country’s busiest aviation hub, has been operating its air traffic communication system without satellite connectivity for nearly two months, sparking safety concerns. The satellite-based VSAT system, considered the most reliable link, is reportedly down due to signal interference. As a result, authorities are relying on fibre-optic internet, normally a backup option.

Although flight operations remain uninterrupted, aviation experts warn this setup increases risks, especially during winter fog when pilots depend heavily on stable communication, radar, and Instrument Landing Systems. Fibre-optic networks are more vulnerable to physical damage, power disruptions, and technical failures.
