After being critically injured with a knife to the neck, 7-year-old Jannatul Nisha Ira from Sitakunda, Chattogram, passed away on Tuesday (March 3) at around 4:30 am, after three days of hospitalization.

The news was confirmed by Ira’s uncle, Md. Ramiz.

On Sunday, Ira underwent neck surgery at Chattogram Medical College Hospital. The following day, she was moved to the One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC), where she later died.

The child had been rescued on Sunday morning from a remote hilly area inside Sitakunda’s Eco-Park and Botanical Garden. Workers involved in the renovation of the Chandranath temple road found her in a severely injured state.

Initially, she was admitted to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

According to police and local sources, around 10 am on Sunday, Ira was found about 500 meters uphill from the Sahasradhara waterfall along a hilly path inside the Botanical Garden and Eco-Park, with her neck cut and bleeding heavily. The workers who discovered her quickly tried to stop the bleeding by wrapping her neck with their clothing before rushing her to the health complex.

Sitakunda Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Mohinul Islam, said the child died while receiving treatment at the hospital. Ira’s mother has filed an attempted murder case at the police station. Authorities are working to identify the perpetrator.
