Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation, stating he will step down after the Liberal Party selects a new leader. Trudeau, in power since 2015, faces declining support, internal divisions, and criticism from former finance minister Chrystia Freeland, who accused him of prioritizing political gimmicks over economic stability. The leadership race, expected to be swift, could feature contenders like Freeland and Mark Carney. Trudeau’s minority government, struggling in polls, narrowly survived non-confidence votes and suspended parliament until March to allow leadership changes while limiting opposition challenges.
