Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus held a detailed video discussion with Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX and owner of Tesla and X, on Thursday to explore potential collaboration and advance plans to introduce Starlink satellite internet in Bangladesh. The meeting included Dr. Khalilur Rahman, High Representative for the Rohingya Crisis, Lamiya Morshed, Principal Coordinator for SDGs Affairs, and SpaceX executives Lauren Dreyer and Richard Griffiths.

During their conversation, Prof. Yunus and Musk highlighted how Starlink’s satellite connectivity could transform digital access in Bangladesh, especially for rural communities, vulnerable women, and young entrepreneurs. They discussed how high-speed, low-cost internet could bridge the digital divide, improving access to education, healthcare, and global markets for small and micro-entrepreneurs.

Prof. Yunus expressed his excitement for the partnership, emphasizing that Starlink’s services would complement Grameen Bank and Grameenphone’s pioneering efforts to connect rural communities. He envisioned Starlink empowering women and youth to become "global entrepreneurs" through digital access.

Elon Musk praised the global impact of the Grameen Bank microfinance model, noting his long-standing familiarity with Grameen’s work in poverty alleviation and digital inclusion. He expressed confidence that Starlink could drive further innovation and financial inclusion in Bangladesh.

Prof. Yunus invited Musk to visit Bangladesh for the potential Starlink launch, to which Musk responded positively, saying, "I look forward to it."

Both sides agreed to expedite progress on the initiative, assigning Dr. Rahman, Dreyer, and Griffiths to lead further coordination efforts. This engagement marks a significant step toward advancing digital inclusion and economic empowerment across Bangladesh.
