A double-decker bus of the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) crashed into a pillar of the elevated expressway in the Farmgate area of Dhaka. The incident occurred around 11:30 AM on Tuesday (July 29), when the bus veered under the expressway ramp and hit a pillar.

The upper front portion of the bus was severely damaged in the collision. According to police, one person sustained minor injuries.

Anish Kirtania, Assistant Commissioner (Traffic) of Tejgaon Division, told Prothom Alo, “A BRTC bus hit the ramp of the elevated expressway.”

Several videos circulating on social media show the bus stuck beneath the ramp.

Eyewitness Sujon Bonik said, “Two BRTC double-decker buses were racing side by side to pick up passengers. The upper deck of the bus on the right slammed into the expressway pillar and got stuck underneath the ramp. The impact destroyed the upper deck roof, causing it to collapse on one side. Fortunately, there weren’t many passengers on the upper level, so no major injuries occurred. Passengers were later seen jumping out through the windows to escape.”

The accident briefly disrupted traffic on this busy road, but the damaged bus was quickly removed from the scene.
