Newly elected BNP lawmaker from Dhaka-13, Bobby Hajjaj, has been invited to take oath as State Minister for Education in the BNP-led government.

The oath-taking ceremony for newly elected Members of Parliament was held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday (February 17) after 10:00 AM, after which the information was confirmed.

Earlier, in the February 12 results for Dhaka-13, Bobby Hajjaj, contesting with BNP’s “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol, secured victory with 88,387 votes. His closest rival, Mamunul Haque of the Jamaat-e-Islami–backed 11-party alliance, received 86,067 votes.

The 13th National Parliamentary Election was held on February 12. Out of 297 declared seats, BNP candidates won 209. The Jamaat-led 11-party electoral alliance secured 77 seats, including 68 won directly by Jamaat-e-Islami and 9 by its allied parties.

In the 300-seat Jatiya Sangsad, a party needs at least 151 seats—50.33 percent of the total—to form a government. BNP leaders and activists have expressed jubilation over what they describe as a landslide and decisive victory.

Several factors are being credited for BNP’s sweeping win, including its emphasis on the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War, the charismatic leadership of party Chairperson Tarique Rahman, the alleged persecution of party leaders and activists during the previous Awami League government, strong internal unity, and the sacrifices of former Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and the Zia family.

However, the most significant factor behind the victory is widely considered to be Tarique Rahman’s return to the country. After more than 17 years in exile, his comeback and active leadership in electoral politics marked a notable moment in Bangladesh’s political history. His campaign leadership, organizational restructuring, and efforts to strengthen party unity revitalized the BNP.

Political analysts believe that Tarique Rahman not only ensured electoral victory but also provided the party with a clear political roadmap focused on restoring democracy, administrative reform, economic reconstruction, and establishing good governance.
