The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is set to commemorate the 89th birth anniversary of its founder and former president, Ziaur Rahman, on Sunday with various activities. Ziaur Rahman, born on January 19, 1936, in Bagbari, Bogura, established the BNP in 1978 and served as Bangladesh's seventh president until his assassination on May 30, 1981, in Chattogram. The BNP has planned a day-long program that includes hoisting party flags at its offices, placing wreaths at Zia's grave in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar at 11 AM, and hosting a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, in the afternoon.

BNP’s associate organizations and its city, district, and upazila units will also observe the day with discussions, warm clothing distribution, and other initiatives. Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir paid tribute to Zia in a statement, highlighting his role in the Liberation War, national development, and the reinstatement of multiparty democracy. Alamgir also prayed for Ziaur Rahman’s eternal peace.
