BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that the party is not eager or desperate to come to power but remains firmly committed to restoring the country’s ownership to its people. He expressed optimism that if the national election is held by February next year, many of the prevailing issues could be addressed and resolved. He made these comments on Thursday (July 31) while speaking at a discussion event organized at the National Press Club, held to commemorate the anniversary of the July-August uprisings.

Addressing the topic of political reform, Mirza Fakhrul mentioned that various political parties have already reached a consensus on 12 fundamental issues. He added that discussions are still ongoing to achieve agreement on the remaining matters. He emphasized that reforms should focus only on the fundamental points where consensus has already been established, and the issues without mutual agreement should be excluded for now.

He further noted that while mudslinging and political criticism are not uncommon in democratic systems, there should still be boundaries. Without maintaining such limits, there is a risk that hostility and bitterness may escalate in the future. Concluding his remarks, he urged all parties and individuals to come together and work in unity for the betterment of the nation, keeping in mind the sacrifices made by the martyrs for the country’s progress.
