Ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, Sultan Mahmud Babu, the BNP-nominated candidate for Jamalpur-2 (Islampur Upazila), and his daughter Nashida Shafia Binte have been issued a show-cause notice for alleged violations of the election code of conduct.

On Sunday (January 11), Judge Md. Ahmadul Kabir Sakil of the Election Investigation and Judicial Committee, responsible for Melandah Civil Judge Court in Jamalpur, issued the notice.

The notice directs them to appear in person at the Melandah Civil Judge Court on January 15 at 10:30 am and submit a written explanation.

According to the notice, multiple posts and promotional content were published on January 3 on a Facebook account named “Nashida Shafia Bintee”, urging voters to support Sultan Mahmud Babu under the “Dhaner Sheesh” (rice sheaf) symbol in the upcoming election.

The Election Investigation and Judicial Committee verified these posts and confirmed the allegations. The committee stated that using social media for campaigning through a candidate’s supporters constitutes a clear violation of Rules 3 and 18 of the 2025 Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates.

Additionally, the notice was issued urgently, and the Officer-in-Charge of Islampur Police Station was instructed to submit the issuance report to the court promptly.
