The mobile library service operated by Bishwa Sahitya Kendra will temporarily halt at the start of the new year as its project tenure concludes. Director Shamim Al Mamun announced that the service will be suspended during this interim period while the organization works on extending the project's timeline.

Bishwa Sahitya Kendra stated that the mobile library service has been running for 25 years, with 76 vehicles covering 3,200 locations nationwide, each serving as a small library. The service currently caters to approximately 500,000 regular and irregular readers. "For the past six years, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs has provided financial support to the project in two-year terms. The third phase concludes on December 31," said Shamim Al Mamun.

The director further explained that while the previous government had signaled an end to funding, the current administration has shown interest in supporting the project for an additional two years. "We were informed towards the end of the previous government’s term that the Ministry of Cultural Affairs would not continue funding. However, the current government seems inclined to extend financial support for another two years," Mamun said. Meanwhile, readers across the country have formed human chains to demand the continuation of the mobile library service.
