A 19-year-old woman, Lamia, allegedly died after receiving the wrong blood type following a surgical operation at a private clinic in Bhola. Lamia, wife of Md Sharif from Weather Office Road under Bhola Municipality, passed away Monday evening at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal.

She had been admitted to Bandhan Healthcare on January 7 for pregnancy complications and delivered a baby boy via caesarean section on Thursday. The clinic reportedly charged Tk 1,200 for blood grouping and cross-matching, but she was allegedly given ‘B’ positive blood instead of her actual ‘O’ positive.

According to her brother-in-law, Md Rajib, Lamia developed convulsions immediately after the transfusion, and her condition worsened. She remained on life support in the ICU for four days before dying. Her death certificate reportedly cites complications from the wrong blood transfusion.

Following the incident, relatives vandalized the clinic and protested, demanding justice. Police intervened to restore order, and an investigation will proceed if a formal complaint is filed.
