Tarique Rahman has expressed optimism that Bangladesh will one day produce world-class footballers like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Kylian Mbappé. He said Bangladesh should be bold enough to dream of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup.

He made these remarks while speaking at the prize-giving ceremony of the Primary School Gold Cup Football Tournament held at the Army Stadium in the capital on Saturday (June 20).

He added that one of the government’s election promises was to expand opportunities for children in sports. According to him, Bangladesh should be known not only for cricket but also for football and other sporting fields. He assured that the government will continue taking steps to nurture children’s talents, whether in sports, music, art, or religious recitation.

Addressing the students, he said they are the future of the country and must excel in both education and cultural activities to build a strong and beautiful Bangladesh. He also encouraged them by saying that future stars like Messi, Ronaldo, and Mbappé could emerge from among them, and that Bangladesh should aim for stronger performances in global events like the Olympics.
