Bangladesh is preparing to announce its historic and largest-ever defense budget, estimated at around Tk 55,000 crore for the 2025-26 fiscal year. This bold step highlights the country’s commitment to military modernization and strategic self-reliance. The proposed budget, a sharp rise from Tk 42,000 crore the previous year, signals a notable shift in defense priorities in response to increasing regional tensions and changing security dynamics. The allocation includes ambitious plans to procure advanced fighter jets, submarines, missile systems, and drones, while also focusing on international military training and enhancing domestic arms production. Officials stress that this record-breaking defense budget is not intended for aggression, but rather to bolster national defense capabilities and establish Bangladesh as an emerging power in South Asia.
