The central bank attributed this impressive surge to strong post-Eid inflows. While remittances typically rise during major religious festivals, this year’s momentum has persisted even two weeks after Eid-ul-Fitr, surpassing expectations and reflecting sustained confidence from overseas workers. In March, the country experienced a record-breaking inflow of $3.29 billion—the highest monthly remittance figure in Bangladesh’s history. The trend has continued into April, reinforcing the upward trajectory of remittance income. From July 2024 to April 21, 2025—the first ten months of the current fiscal year (FY2024–25)—Bangladesh received a total of $23.75 billion in remittances. This marks a $5.28 billion increase compared to $18.47 billion received during the same period in the previous fiscal year, reflecting a robust year-on-year growth of 28.6%. The substantial rise in remittance earnings has had a stabilizing effect on the country’s foreign exchange reserves, which currently stand at approximately $27 billion, according to the central bank. Moreover, during the first nine months of the fiscal year (July to March), expatriates sent home $21.77 billion, up from $17.07 billion in the corresponding period of FY2023–24. This steady growth underscores the critical role of remittances in supporting Bangladesh’s macroeconomic stability and foreign reserve position.
