Bangladesh saw a sharp rise in remittance inflows at the beginning of January, with expatriates sending USD 604 million in the first five days, according to Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan. This represents a significant increase from USD 397 million during the same period last year, reflecting strong year-on-year growth. Notably, remittances on January 5 alone reached USD 138 million.

From July to January 5 of the current 2025–26 fiscal year, total remittances amounted to USD 16.869 billion, a 19 percent increase over the same period last year.

The upward trend was also visible in recent monthly figures. December inflows reached USD 3.226 billion—the highest in the current fiscal year and the second-highest monthly total in Bangladesh’s history. November brought USD 2.889 billion, while October, September, August, and July saw inflows of USD 2.563 billion, USD 2.686 billion, USD 2.421 billion, and USD 2.478 billion, respectively.

During the 2024–25 fiscal year, expatriates sent a record USD 30.32 billion in remittances, the highest ever in a single fiscal year for Bangladesh.
