The Election Commission has published the official gazette listing the Members of Parliament elected in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. The gazette was issued Friday night by Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

It includes the names of the elected MPs, along with their fathers’/husbands’ names, mothers’ names, and addresses. Arrangements will now be made for their oath-taking.

The Commission also released the gazette of the referendum results. According to the document, 48,200,660 votes were cast in favor (“Yes”), while 22,071,726 voted against (“No”). A total of 7,422,637 ballot papers were declared invalid.

Sources at the Chief Adviser’s Office said the current decision is for the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to administer the oath to the newly elected MPs. The swearing-in may take place on Monday or Tuesday. On the same day, the new Prime Minister and members of the cabinet may also take oath.

Under the Constitution, the oath is to be administered by the Speaker of the 12th National Parliament, Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, or a person nominated by her. If this does not occur within three days, the CEC must administer the oath within the following three days.

Voting was held in 299 of the 300 constituencies in Thursday’s election. The Election Commission announced unofficial results for 297 seats on Friday. The gazette for Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 has not yet been issued due to High Court directives.

Of the 297 seats declared, the BNP won 209. BNP candidates are also leading in the two seats where results remain pending. Its allies secured three seats. Jamaat-e-Islami won 68 seats, while other partners in the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat secured nine seats.
