Bangladesh’s readymade garment exports to the European Union grew by 35.82% between 2021 and 2025, reaching €19.41 billion, strengthening its position as Europe’s second-largest supplier. According to Eurostat data, exports stood at €14.3 billion in 2021, with the EU remaining the country’s largest export market.

During this five-year period, Bangladesh’s market share in the EU increased from 19.78% in 2021 to 21.57% in 2025.

However, a recent decline in exports, driven by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, weaker global demand, and rising competition, has raised concerns among exporters. In recent months, Bangladesh, along with major suppliers such as China, India, Turkey, and Vietnam, has faced negative growth due to subdued demand.

The ongoing Middle East crisis has also led to energy concerns and disruptions in key shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, potentially triggering broader global economic impacts.

Between 2021 and 2025, total EU apparel imports from global sources rose by 24.56%, increasing from €72.25 billion to €89.99 billion. However, growth slowed in the last year, rising only 2.10% to €89.99 billion in 2025 from €88.14 billion in 2024, reflecting global uncertainty and weaker demand.

China remained the EU’s top apparel supplier, followed by Bangladesh, Turkey, India, and Vietnam.
