The Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWA-B) has taken a firm stance demanding the resignation of BCB director M. Nazmul Islam. The organization has issued an ultimatum: if he does not step down by 1 PM tomorrow (Thursday), before the start of the first BPL match, all cricket activities will be halted.
CWA-B president Mohammad Mithun made the announcement today (Wednesday) during a press conference via Zoom. He emphasized that Nazmul Islam must resign before the BPL match begins; otherwise, players have collectively decided not to participate in any games.
Mithun stated, “This strict action is in response to Nazmul Islam’s recent controversial remarks about players, which contradict the respect and professionalism expected in cricket. Despite giving the board ample time to address issues in the first division, we have received no positive response so far.”
He added, “The words repeatedly used by this board director have hurt the cricketing community deeply, and the players cannot accept them. That is why we are demanding his resignation. If he does not step down before tomorrow’s match, we will suspend all cricket activities effective immediately.”
Earlier, Nazmul Islam had labeled Tamim Iqbal a “broker for India” over the World Cup issue, prompting CWA-B to demand an apology, which never came. Mithun commented, “For some time now, comments targeting our players have been unacceptable—from one player initially to remarks about the entire squad. Such statements are never acceptable, nor do we expect them to continue.”
He further said, “A board director should speak thoughtfully about players. We have given the cricket board time on various issues and tried to resolve them in different ways, but they have neither supported nor assisted us. We have yet to see a solution to any matter. Especially, the latest remarks by the board director have caused great pain to the entire cricketing community. This is unacceptable.”
