BNP Chairperson’s advisor, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, has stated that the Awami League, as a political party, has not been involved in any criminal activities. He made this statement on Friday (March 21) evening while speaking as the chief guest at a mass iftar program held at Sonaiamuri Railway Station premises in Noakhali.

During his speech, Barrister Khokon emphasized BNP’s commitment to democracy, stating that every citizen has the right to participate in politics and form their own organization. He reiterated that BNP firmly believes in the right of every individual to organize and engage in political activities. He further mentioned that the decision to ban Awami League lies with the current government, but he stressed that individuals who have committed crimes must be held accountable. However, he maintained that, as a party, the Awami League itself has not committed any crimes.

Addressing the state of elections in Bangladesh, Mahbub Uddin Khokon pointed out that for the past 15 years, the people of the country have been deprived of their voting rights. He claimed that the absence of government accountability over this period has enabled many individuals under the protection of Sheikh Hasina to engage in corruption, including looting, misappropriating public funds, and laundering money. Concluding his remarks, he expressed his hope that Allah would grant Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus the ability to ensure a proper parliamentary election in the near future.
