Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman said that people must be allowed to speak freely without fear of arrest, and that harassment for expressing opinions will not be tolerated. He made the remarks on Saturday (May 2) at an exchange meeting with party leaders and activists held at Sylhet District Shilpakala Academy.

He said legal action should only apply to actual crimes, not to freedom of expression. Referring to the large crowd at the event, he noted that many participants were not BNP supporters but attended because they believe the party is on the right path.

Rahman urged party members to work harder, make sacrifices, and avoid arrogance associated with power. He also stressed the need to strengthen the organization ahead of the upcoming local government elections and to maintain disciplined behavior to ensure public satisfaction.

The meeting was chaired by Sylhet City BNP Acting President Rezaul Hasan Kayes Lodi, with several other leaders also speaking at the event.
