ISPR stated, "If anyone is found guilty in the investigation, appropriate legal action will be taken under military law." Additionally, the interim government, led by Professor Muhammad Yunus, has ordered an urgent inquiry into the incident, according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing. The deceased has been identified by his family as Touhidul Islam, the convener of Jubo Dal’s Panchthubi Union unit in Cumilla’s Adarsha Sadar Upazila. However, the ISPR statement referred to him as Touhidur Rahman. His elder brother, Abul Kalam Azad, mentioned that joint forces contacted the family and assured them that "those responsible for the incident would be prosecuted under military law." On Friday, he reportedly fell ill while in army custody and was handed over to the police, who then took him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The incident sparked protests and human chains in the area, with locals demanding justice. The family alleged that Touhidul Islam was tortured while in detention. Cumilla’s Superintendent of Police stated that the exact cause of death would be determined once the post-mortem report is available. ISPR confirmed that "on January 31, 2025, at approximately 03:00 hours, Mohammad Touhidur Rahman (40) was arrested during a joint forces operation based on specific allegations. Later that day, at 12:30 hours, he passed away at Cumilla Medical College Hospital." In response, the army has withdrawn the camp commander and launched an investigation into the matter.
