General Dwivedi made these comments at the Indian army's annual press conference in Delhi. The political unrest in Bangladesh began on 5 August with the student-led uprising, which prompted Hasina's resignation and her subsequent flight to India aboard a Bangladeshi military aircraft, where she has remained at Hindon Airbase near Delhi for over five months. In response to inquiries about the situation in Bangladesh, General Dwivedi assured that there was no immediate risk of conflict, saying, "As of today, there is no likelihood of any side being attacked. I am in regular contact with the Army Chief of that country." He further explained that throughout the power transition in Bangladesh, India and Bangladesh maintained consistent communication. Additionally, a video conference took place on 20 November, and military relations between the two nations have continued as usual. General Dwivedi’s remarks emphasized the coordination between the military forces of the two countries during Sheikh Hasina's departure. On broader bilateral relations, he stated, "India is strategically important to them, and the same is true from our perspective. We are neighbors, and it is vital to coexist and understand each other—hostility would be harmful to both sides." He concluded by noting that while military relations remain strong, full normalization of bilateral relations will only occur once an elected government is established in Bangladesh. "The relationship between the two countries will not fully normalize until an elected government comes to power in Bangladesh. However, the military relationship is absolutely fine, and everything is proceeding smoothly," General Dwivedi said.
