Government to Sell Milk, Eggs, and Meat at Affordable Prices During Ramadan

Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, the government has launched an initiative to sell various animal products, including milk, eggs, and meat, at affordable prices for the general public. The program is organized by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and the Department of Livestock Services and will run throughout the month.

A meeting was held on Sunday (February 1) at the ministry’s conference hall to plan measures for uninterrupted supply and market price stabilization of meat, eggs, and milk during Ramadan. The meeting was chaired by Farida Akhtar, Advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.

It was decided that from the day before Ramadan until the 25th of the month, these products would be sold through 26 mobile sales centers. Prices have been fixed at 245 BDT per kg for dressed broiler chicken, 80 BDT per liter of pasteurized milk, 8 BDT per egg, and 650 BDT per kg of beef.

Additionally, divisional directors and district livestock officers under the Department of Livestock Services will coordinate with district administrations to ensure affordable sales in other divisional and district towns, taking into account local market conditions.

Initially, the program will operate at 25 key locations within Dhaka City Corporation, including: Abdul Gani Road (near Secretariat), Khamarbari (Farmgate), Satfut Road and Kalshi (Mirpur), Azimpur Matrisadan, Nayabazar (Old Dhaka), Uttara House Building, Rampura Market, Hazaribagh, Arambagh (Motijheel), Maniknagar (Jatrabari), Shahjadpur (Badda), Korail Basti (Banani), Kamrangirchar, Khilgaon Rail Crossing South, Nakhalpara (Lucas Mor), Segunbagicha Kacha Bazar, Babar Road and Basila (Mohammadpur), Kakrail, Banshree, Mirpur-10, Kallyanpur, Tejgaon, and Bangabazar (Old Dhaka).

The number of mobile sales centers will be gradually increased, with permanent locations identified in coordination with local entrepreneurs and stakeholders.
