A touching scene unfolded at the Sreepur Upazila Livestock Office in Gazipur on Wednesday afternoon, where five-year-old Sinha Moni arrived carrying her sick pet rabbit, Montu, in her lap. With tears in her eyes and visible worry on her face, the little girl quietly waited as the rabbit lay motionless with its eyes closed.

Sinha lives with her grandparents in Khilpara village of Gusinga Union, Sreepur. After losing her mother shortly after birth due to childbirth complications, she was raised by her grandparents. To bring joy to her life, they gifted her a rabbit named Montu and later a kitten named Jhantu. The two pets quickly became her closest companions.

For the past few days, Montu had stopped eating, leaving Sinha deeply distressed. Believing someone might have injured the rabbit's back, she also lost her appetite and insisted on taking Montu to a veterinarian.

Her aunt, Jamia Akhter, who works in a garment factory, took leave from work to accompany Sinha to the animal hospital after seeing how heartbroken her niece had become.

Veterinary Surgeon Golam Murshed comforted Sinha before examining the rabbit. He said Montu appeared to have back pain, but an X-ray would be needed to determine whether any bones were broken. He prescribed medication for two days and advised monitoring the rabbit's condition before deciding on further treatment.

Sreepur Upazila Livestock Officer Ashraf Hossain said they regularly treat pet animals, but Sinha's heartfelt love and concern for her rabbit was a truly moving sight.
