A 73-year-old man named Fazor Ali died after being hit by a motorcycle during a Jamaat-e-Islami motorbike showdown led by the party’s nominated candidate and central organisational secretary, Muhaddis Abdul Khalek, in Satkhira.

The incident occurred around noon on Saturday (22 November) at Badamtala Bazar in Alipur Union of Sadar upazila. The victim, Fazor Ali, was a resident of Karigorpara.

His nephew, Shamsuzzaman, said Fazor Ali was crossing the road on his way to prayer when a motorcycle from the showdown struck him, leaving him critically injured. Locals rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His funeral prayer was held later that night at Badamtala.

Iqbal Hossain, a UP member of Alipur Union, said the showdown began near the bypass roundabout adjacent to Satkhira Polytechnic College and moved through several roads. The accident occurred as the procession passed through the area. Fazor Ali collapsed on the road after being hit by the motorcycle and died before reaching the hospital.

Habibur Rahman, general secretary of Satkhira Sadar Jamaat, said Fazor Ali was a supporter of their organisation. He claimed the victim was standing by the roadside when he was hit by a motorcycle’s looking glass, causing him to fall and die.

SI Mehedi Hasan of Satkhira Sadar Police Station said an unnatural death case has been recorded as the family did not file any complaint. After the inquest, the body was handed over to the family.
