A new study by Bangladesh Health Watch (BHW) reveals that around 57% of graduates in Public Health face significant difficulties securing jobs in their field.

The report, titled "State of Professional Public Health Education in Bangladesh (2023-2024)," highlights key barriers, including limited job and research opportunities in the public health sector, outdated curricula lacking job-oriented skills, and a shortage of qualified educators. The findings were shared during the report's launch event at BRAC Tower, Mohakhali, Dhaka.

This marks BHW's ninth report since the platform began addressing various health issues in 2006. Conducted in November 2023 with 300 undergraduates from multiple institutions, the study found that graduates from public universities like Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and Jahangirnagar University (JU) face the most challenges, whereas those from North South University encounter the least.

According to the survey, BSMMU graduates reported the highest employment difficulties (82%), followed by JU (64%), Daffodil International University (59%), the National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM) (58%), BRAC University's James P Grant School of Public Health (55%), North South University (40%), and other institutions (69%). However, the study noted that participant numbers varied across institutions.
