The project achieved an impressive savings of 50 crore BDT, attributed to its focus on transparency, accountability, and meticulous cost management. The bridge is set to be inaugurated in mid-January, though full-speed train operations will require an additional two months to commence. Project Director Al Fattah Masudur Rahman stated that the new bridge will drastically cut travel time. While trains currently take 30 minutes to cross the existing bridge, the new structure will enable crossings at 100 km/h in just 5 minutes and support up to 38 trains daily. However, achieving full-speed operations at 120 km/h will face delays due to the late arrival of computer-based interlink systems (CBIS) from India, expected two months after the inauguration. Initially budgeted at 9,734.7 crore BDT in 2016, the project's cost rose to 16,780.96 crore BDT, funded in part by a 12,149.2 crore BDT loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Construction began in August 2020, with the original timeline of July 2016 to December 2023 extended to December 2025.
