In Kishoreganj’s Tarail upazila, a visually impaired man named Soani had supported his family for years by singing in public. Recently, a local influential group allegedly forced him to stop singing and ordered him to beg instead. Despite approaching the police for help, he says he received no support—only more pressure.

Family members claim they were barred from entering their usual singing spots and threatened whenever they tried to perform. They say local youths told them, “You must not sing here anymore. From now on, you will beg.” Even after explaining that singing was their only source of income, the threats continued. According to the family, those influential individuals openly declared that they would not allow the family to sing anywhere in the area.

Soani’s son Anwar Hossain said, “My father cannot do any physical work due to his condition. Singing was the only way he could earn. Now they are forcing him to beg…it’s humiliating.” Locals also questioned why the authorities failed to protect the family, saying no one has helped them despite repeated appeals.
